What activities are allowed on Haggett's Pond?
Haggett's Pond is the Town of Andover's Drinking Water Reservoir. Passive Recreation activities are allowed in and around Haggett's Pond including: Walking, Hiking, Jogging, and Biking.
In order to fish you must have a valid fishing license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. Information on how to obtain a fishing license can be found here https://www.mass.gov/how-to/buy-your-freshwater-fishing-license
Only rowboats are allowed on Haggett's Pond. No motors of any kind are permissible. All rowboats must be registered with the Town. Residents may obtain a boat registration from the Treasurer’s Office located at Town Offices 36 Bartlet Street; but only after obtaining a Massachusetts Fishing License.
The following activities are not allowed on Haggett's Pond:
- No Swimming, Bathing or Wading
- No Dogs in the Water.
- No Hip Waders shall be worn—Fish from shoreline or rowboat only
- No Ice Fishing,
- No Ice Skating
- No Canoes
- No Kayaks
- No Windsurfers
- No Paddleboards
- No Sailboats
- No Dogs or other animals may enter the water
Additional notes:
- Boat registration sticker must be applied high above the high-water line on transom (rear of boat).
- Boat storage is allowed behind the old pump house in the wooded pine grove area to the left of the signs (secure your boat to a tree if desired).
- Stored boats must have a valid registration sticker. Any boats found without a registration sticker may be considered abandoned and disposed of.
- Boating season will be from April 15th to November 1st.
- Gates to the parking lot will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM every day of the week (when leaving after 7:00 PM, drive up to the gate and wait 3 to 5 seconds for it to open).
- All boats must stay at least 300 feet from the Water Treatment Plant.
- Please monitor the boat storage area for litter and do your part to help. Keep it clean. Report the boat registration number to Mike Murnane Sr. if litter is in or around the boat.
- Report any threats to the water quality such as illegal dumping or suspicious activity.
- Report any unregistered boats that you see on the water to Mike Murnane Sr.
- We have worked hard to get this program streamlined and successful in the past we have had problems with nonresident boating storage.
